Notes on Merriman,
Merriman, though a fairly common English surname, in the context of our family
is not related to an English pedigree as it was adopted by deed poll
in 1931 as a convenient translation of the Russian “de
Vessselitsky” which was of considerable inconvenience to the
family between the world wars.
As such the“ Merriman Family tree“ in our family is
remarkably short commencing with Sergei and Aelfreda in 1931 and
being passed down through their sons Gabriel and Michael.
Gabriel
had one son with issue ( Ronald ) to carry on the name and Michael
had two ( Peter and Timothy ).
Though some of the ladies still
chose to use the name after marriage.
